2016, despite being an extreme year in world events, was a good one for me. I put out a record that I love and people seem to dig it (phew!). Tom Cochrane fist-bumped me after my record release show and told me he was going to steal my bass player, which he proceeded to do (for one show). There were memorable performances, there were adventures, there were beautiful moments and heartbreaking ones, there were drum gigs all over the place and at some point there was a musical about trains. I had the great honour of covering The Tragically Hip’s “Morning Moon” for The Strombo Show’s incredible Hip 30 special which also featured Rush, The Barenaked Ladies, Sarah Harmer, and so many greats. The songs of Future Snowbird ended up on some year-end lists:
Said the Gramophone Best of 2016
The Strombo Hundo
16 Overlooked Albums

I fell in love with so many records. Some serious discoveries include Pinegrove, Big Thief, Stephen Steinbrink, Anderson Paak, Elyse Weinberg, Solange. I could go on. I am excited for Leif Vollebekk’s album to drop, for the new Rose Cousins and the new Broken Social Scene, for people to make important music for trying times.

There’s lots to do in 2017, for all of us. I’m working on a new album and I’m gearing up to hit the road playing drums for my dear friend Tim Darcy in Europe and the US. He’s got a beautiful album called Saturday Night coming out on Jagjaguwar on Feb. 17th, and you should hear it! Here are the dates.

TO people, I am playing a bunch of new songs on the piano at Burdock Music Hall on Thursday Jan. 26th with my dear friend Kate Palumbo on bass. Noah Reid is also performing. Tickets can be found at burdockto.com.

More soon. Thank you thank you thank you always.
